Re-Elect Tim McCallum, City Council Place3

Successful Businessman, Community Leader, Trusted Neighbor

Dear Neighbor:

Make-believe is okay for 3 year olds, but it has no place in our government.  My opponent’s entire campaign has revolved around make-believe issues, including a make-believe multi-million dollar convention center, a make-believe street to the Enclave, and make-believe threats of bankrupting the Town.  Whether you are a first-time voter, or a veteran voter, I urge you to do your homework, because this is the real world, with real issues, and real consequences. Here is some info I think you should know:

Dollars and Cents.  As a businessman who has to make payroll and balance budgets, I know what it means to make every penny count. I am a Certified Public Accountant with 29 years of experience, and for the last 20 years I have been trusted to serve on the Board of Directors of a $6 Billion Financial Institution.  Upon taking office two years ago, Hollywood Park had less than one month of operating expenses in reserve. Today, we have a 3-4 month reserve, without a tax rate increase this year.  I pledge to continue this conservative fiscal practice.

Involvement Makes a Difference. I have been actively involved in our community for years, having been a regular presence at Council meetings since 2004, and having served for three years as President of the Homeowners Association before being elected to City Council. I know the issues of our Town, and I know the history of the issues.  As HOA President, I was a watch dog for the community, advocating transparency in government, and I am proud to have carried that philosophy into my duties as your Councilman. My challenger has had no community involvement whatsoever in HP, and is running simply as Mayor Sartor’s handpicked supporter.

Keeping Our Small-Town Charm.  I love to brag on my community.  I have lived in Hollywood Park for 25 years, and I don’t ever want us to lose our country-like atmosphere and small-town charm.  Digital billboards are just about as far from country-like charm as you can get, and that’s why I opposed Lamar Signs’ proposal to erect two digital billboards in Hollywood Park.  Mayor Sartor took the opposite side, to the point of encouraging Lamar Signs to sue the Homeowners Association over the matter. Make no mistake, my opponent is the Mayor’s handpicked candidate (her sign was prominently displayed in his yard during the election). You have my pledge, neighbors, that when I am given the opportunity to choose between outsiders versus maintaining the beauty and charm of our wonderful town, I will ALWAYS put you and Hollywood Park FIRST!

Don’t Give Away the Farm.  A big issue facing Hollywood Park today is the status of the Hill Country Village fire contract.  Our fire services are a valuable commodity and we should demand a fair price.  I am the designated negotiator on behalf of Hollywood Park and I intend to negotiate the best deal for my Town while being fair to our neighbor. My opponent wants to give away the farm on this issue, and her misplaced loyalty to Hill Country Village over Hollywood Park undermines the Town’s negotiations. That’s not good for you and me, and it’s not good for our Town. Moreover, the lives and safety of our firefighters are too important to demand anything less than fair compensation for providing fire protection to Hill Country Village.

Experience counts. Together, with your help, we can continue to keep Hollywood Park a wonderful neighborhood where “The Sun Always Shines.”
